A zombie is essentially halfway between a living person and a rotting corpse, animated but moving around awkwardly, a desiccation masquerading as a person. This is putting aside their voracious appetite for flesh.
In the universe of sequels, Zombieland: Double Tap resides in a similar territory. It isn’t a part of an ongoing franchise because it is a decade-later sequel to 2009’s irreverent horror-comedy Zombieland. It resembles a cheapie remake from the 1980s that has been passed off as a more serious legacy sequel.
Given the countless (and mostly uncomplicated) allusions to popular culture and the original Zombieland, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Zombieland: Double Tap to establish this comparison between the sequel and the zombie apocalypse on its own. Script written by Dave Callaham
The film’s potential mustiness is periodically noted by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick: In the opening narration, Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) expresses his gratitude to the audience and notes that they have “many options in zombie entertainment.
Later, Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) is reprimanded by Wichita (Emma Stone) for using his old catchphrase (“Nut up or shut up,” for those who don’t remember the previous movie). However, for a large portion of its duration, the picture is uncomfortable satisfied with reenacting the dynamics of the amusing, occasionally moving, first film.
